Copperfield Flue Liner Replacement Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Copperfield Flue Liner Replacement: The Alpharetta Owner’s Guide

Copperfield flue liner replacement in Alpharetta typically runs $2,800-$5,400 installed, depending on liner diameter, height, and whether the existing liner is partially collapsed or fully separated. We stock Copperfield-compatible stainless steel liner in common diameters from 5″ to 8″ and can usually install within 48-72 hours of inspection. Most Alpharetta owners discover the problem during a routine sweep when our camera finds gaps, corrosion scaling, or detached sections that vent combustion gases into the chimney cavity instead of up and out.

Which Copperfield Models This Applies To

Copperfield has sold liner under several series names over the years, and the label matters for fit. The most common we encounter in Alpharetta homes are the Copperfield DuraLiner and Copperfield ProLiner series, both 316Ti stainless steel with corrugated flex sections. Check the collar plate at the top of your chimney; if the stamp reads “CFD” or “CFP” followed by a diameter code, that’s your series. Some older Alpharetta builds from the early 2000s used Copperfield SmoothWall, a 304-grade product that’s more prone to creosote adhesion and premature corrosion in Georgia’s humidity cycles.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha: Copperfield’s flex liner uses a proprietary collar geometry on the DuraLiner series. A generic 6″ flex will slide down the flue, but the top plate won’t seat without modification. We source OEM-equivalent top assemblies through our Haven buying network, or full replacement kits from Olympia Chimney and Famco when the original Copperfield collar is damaged. If you’re matching partials, measure the liner’s outer diameter at the corrugation peak, not the valley. A “6-inch” Copperfield flex typically measures 6.25″ at peak corrugation, and forcing a 6″ nominal replacement into a DuraLiner top plate cracks the seal.

We carry both full Copperfield-compatible kits and hybrid assemblies on our trucks. The hybrid route, a 316Ti flex with an aftermarket top plate, saves roughly $400-$600 on most Alpharetta jobs without sacrificing warranty coverage.

Signs Your Copperfield Flue Liner Replacement Is Failing

Signs Your Copperfield Flue Liner Replacement Is Failing
  • White or orange powder on the liner walls. That’s oxidation scaling, 316Ti breaking down after repeated moisture cycling. In Alpharetta’s spring and fall humidity swings, we’ve seen this accelerate where the liner passes through the cooler exterior chimney wall, especially in north-facing exposures off Windward Parkway and the Webb Bridge corridor.
  • Chunks of clay tile in the firebox. Your Copperfield liner was likely installed inside an original clay flue as a sleeve. When the flex separates or collapses, falling debris is the first visible clue. The underlying issue is usually a detached lower section that’s no longer supporting the masonry above.
  • Smoke or odor in upstairs rooms during a fire. This means combustion gases are leaking through gaps in the liner into the chimney cavity, then finding paths through framing gaps. Carbon monoxide risk is real here. We treat this as a same-day priority when called.
  • Deterioration concentrated at the first bend above the smoke chamber. Copperfield flex liners fatigue at this point because the corrugation flexes with every heating cycle. In Alpharetta, we’ve found this failure mode especially common in 1990s builds with 45-degree offset flues near downtown, where the original installer stressed the liner to avoid masonry work.
  • Water staining on the chimney breast interior. A separated liner top lets rain run down the cavity between liner and clay tile. The stain pattern usually traces the flue path. The liner isn’t just failing; it’s actively routing water into your structure.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Scope Price Range
Standard Copperfield flex liner replacement, 5″-6″ × 20-25 ft, single-story $2,800-$3,600
Large diameter or two-story height, 7″-8″ × 30+ ft $4,200-$5,400
Smoke chamber parging required (common with offset flues) Add $800-$1,400
Copperfield top plate / collar replacement only $680-$920

What drives the range: liner diameter and length are straightforward, but the hidden variable is extraction difficulty. A liner that’s partially collapsed or cemented in place with old insulation takes longer to remove. We quote this after camera inspection, not before. Every replacement includes the new 316Ti flex liner, top plate with rain cap, bottom connector, insulation blanket where code requires it, and a new chimney cap if the existing unit is incompatible. Labor, disposal of the old liner, and our documented photo record are included. The work is backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise and a 20-year liner warranty through Haven Standard Clause 3.

We are not affiliated with Copperfield. We’re an independently owned and operated service company that sources compatible materials through multiple suppliers to keep pricing honest.

DIY or Call Us?

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground here, and then there’s where DIY stops.

What you can check: shine a flashlight up the flue from the firebox and look for obvious gaps, daylight where the liner should be continuous, or debris accumulation. Check the top plate from the roof if you’re comfortable at height. Note the series stamp and diameter code. That’s useful information to have when you call.

Where DIY goes wrong: pulling a failed liner and installing a new one requires working at height, handling sharp stainless edges, and correctly sizing and insulating the replacement. More critically, a mis-seated top plate or gap at the smoke chamber connection vents carbon monoxide into living space. The camera doesn’t soften anything, and neither do I. If the inspection shows anything beyond surface corrosion, we recommend professional replacement. Corrine Halstead and our crew have pulled liners from Alpharetta chimneys where the homeowner’s partial replacement had created a hidden gap that vented into a child’s bedroom for two heating seasons.
